James M. Baker

Mr. Baker, a Georgia native born in Atlanta, resides in Fulton County. He is the President of the Chaseland Corporation, an Atlanta based commercial real estate Development Company and Baker & Lassiter, Inc., an Atlanta based asset management company. His major emphasis during his 46-year real estate career has been the development of shopping centers, office and medical buildings, industrial parks, industrial buildings and multi-family developments, totaling over 5 million square feet.

Over the years, Mr. Baker has been active in other professional activities serving first as Vice President of The Atlanta Home Builders Local Tri-County Chapter in 1978-1979 and then as President in 1980-81. He has served as a National Director on The National Association Home Builders Board in Washington, DC during 1980-83, on the State Board of Directors 1980-81 and as co-chairman of the Ethics Committee for the Atlanta Association. Mr. Baker was chairman of the Atlanta Homebuilders Home Expo in 1981, and served as an economic vice president for the Clayton County Chamber of Commerce from 1983-85. In 1982, he was named by the Clayton County Board of Commissioners to serve as chairman for the committee to oversee the research and writing of the 10-year, county-wide land use and transportation study. Mr. Baker has served on a number of local boards including sponsorship chairman of the LPGA Atlanta Women’s Championship as well as the steering committee for the Chick-Fil-A Charity Championship hosted by Nancy Lopez. In 1994, Mr. Baker was appointed by Governor Zell Miller to serve a three-year term on the State Board of Children and Youth Council and Mr. Baker was reappointed again by Governor Miller and then by Governor Barnes, ultimately serving for 10 years. Mr. Baker served on the General Advisory Committee for the School of Technology at Clayton State University and was honored in 2005 with the dedication of the James M Baker University Center Building. In 2006, Mr. Baker was recognized as one of the outstanding alumni that has transformed the Georgia University System over the past 75 years and was nominated for the University System of Georgia Hall of Fame. Mr. Baker continues to support educational improvements for the State of Georgia and is actively involved in many community and political endeavors.

Additionally, Mr. Baker serves as a Foundation Board Member at Clayton State University a member of the University of Georgia System.
